The Great Blizzard of '08

Wow, did it ever snow in the past week! We got 52 cms on Saturday night - bringing Ottawa's total haul to 410.7 cm of snow this winter!! 2nd only to 1970-1971 season when Ottawa got 444 cm - And they are saying our "In like a Lion" March is not done dumping snow on us yet.
You know, normally, when Canadians are asked questions by tourists like "Do you all live in igloos?" or "Does it snow all year round in Canada?" we usually laugh or look at people like they are crazy, after this year we may have to think before answering that question. It feels like winter is never going to end!!
So, if you don't believe me or can't imagine what 52 cm of snow on top of a full winter snow pack looks like - here are a few photos to contemplate:

Okay, so I know you are asking yourself, what do you with all that snow??
Well, at this point, so are we! To borrow a phrase from a good friend, the snow banks on the side of the road are now 1.5 Emmas tall!

You see neighbours helping neighbours and everyone cursing the snowplow as it comes by and fills in your driveway. What kind of snow plow? Well, when Phil first came to Canada he marvelled at the snow management machines that we have. It took 4 years, but Phil finally got his photos of the behemoths - Behold: Caterpillar, the Snow Eater!!!
